Dietary recommendations and evidence-based practices serve as a foundation for advocacy for healthy dietary patterns and improved nutrition outcomes for individuals and populations. Dietary recommendations are developed systematically through the best scientific research evidence available on nutrition and eating patterns, with respect to food selection, portion control and nutrient sufficiency. They serve as guideposts for providers, policymakers, and the public, as they relate to healthy food selection and strategies to implement nutrition interventions. This session will provide an overview of the current dietary recommendations within the context of supportive research to clinical practice, community programs and population health, to equip individuals and populations to make informed decisions about dietary practices for overall health and wellbeing.
