Food safety and nutrition policy is critical to ensuring that populations have physical, economic and culturally acceptable access to sufficient safe and nutritious food. Well-informed and effective policies can adequately respond to challenges related to food availability, affordability and allocation through supportive sustainable food systems and healthier dietary choices. Implementing interventions based on current evidence will help government and agencies to reduce malnutrition, prevent non-communicable diseases related to diet, and promote standards of equity around nutrition access. This session will discuss how to formulate and implement nutrition policies, strategies for addressing food security, and share case studies for success, ultimately underscoring the necessity of collaborative work between policymakers, health professions and community organizations to assure long term outcomes in health.
