Research methods in nutrition establish the basis for producing credible, evidence-based knowledge about food behaviors, health impacts, and intervention methods. There are numerous possible study designs, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, cross-sectional surveys, and laboratory studies. Accurate dietary measurement, statistical analysis, and adjusting for confounding variables when analysis and interpreting results, all contribute to producing valid and actionable results. The session will cover exemplary methods in nutrition research, including cutting-edge methods in technology for dietary tracking, new biomarker methods to measure diet, and new methodologies for data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Participants will learn about designing, implementing, and evaluating research studies to inform clinical practice, public health policy, and making nutrition recommendations based on evidence.
