Probiotics and prebiotics play a vital role in establishing gut health and general wellness through the promotion of a healthy and diverse microbiome. Probiotics, which are found in fermented foods and supplements, add good bacteria that enhance digestion, immunity, and metabolic wellness. Prebiotics are non-digestible fiber that feeds these good microbes and promotes their growth and activities. Together, they regulate the gut-brain axis, dampen inflammation, and improve nutrient absorption. In this presentation, we will discuss the science underlying probiotics and prebiotics, therapeutic use, and growing evidence that supports gut health as having implications for more broad health outcomes such as mental wellness and prevention of chronic disease.
