Dietary interventions have an important role in both blood pressure control and blood pressure risk reduction in the context of cardiovascular disease. Nutritional approaches that are well-documented include sodium management, a higher intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and lean proteins, and approaches such as the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet. All these strategies are effective in lowering blood pressure and risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and we will discuss their context for the prevention and management of blood pressure in this session. We will cover the scientific basis on dietary interventions, feasible ways to implement nutrition therapy, and how to personalize dietary approaches for patients with varying medical conditions. Those attending the session will walk away with ideas on how to integrate nutrition-focused approaches into clinical practice for hypertension management and the promotion of life-long cardiovascular health.
