Studies of food behavior and psychological nutrition have shown the strong connection between the mind and eating behavior, and provide a rationale for how emotions, stress, culture, and cognition affect food choice. Emotional consumption, stress-induced cravings, and social pressures may all have a profound impact on diet quality and overall health. Strategies such as mindful eating, behavioral therapy, and nutrition education will facilitate a positive relationship with food, improve self-regulation, and assist in preventing overeating. This session will include the psychology of nutritional science, practical tools to change eating behavior, and the partnership between dietitians and mental health professionals when educating patients toward healthy, sustainable, and mindful diets.
