Nutrition has a significant impact on cognitive function, including memory, attention, and overall brain health. Diets in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds enhance neuronal function, synaptic plasticity, and prevent oxidative stress and inflammation. Conversely, dietary patterns that are unhealthy and full of processed foods and refined sugars will have an adverse effect on cognitive performance and increase the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. The purpose of this session is to examine evidence-based nutritional approaches to optimize brain function, including the role and importance of specific nutrients, popular dietary patterns like the Mediterranean diet, and practical strategies for promoting cognitive function throughout the lifespan.
