Nutrition is an essential factor fueling mental health and cognitive function, impacting mood, behavior and psychological well-being. Diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids, B-vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants can support brain health, help neurotransmitter function and reduce risk of mental health conditions whereas poor dietary patterns characterized as high in processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats have been shown to contribute to cognitive decline and mood disturbances. This session will review the emerging science connecting diet and mental health, practical dietary interventions, and ways of incorporating nutrition-informed approaches into mental health care and everyday life to promote emotional resilience and cognitive function.
