Nutrition in Cancer Care

Proper nutrition empowers the care and recovery of patients with cancer and is a determinant of treatment response, immune function, and quality of life. Adequate nutrition can preserve body weight, muscle mass, and energy production, while also informing targeted nutritional interventions to decrease treatment-induced side effects like nausea, fatigue, and malabsorption. Individualized nutrition plans—often consisting of personalized macronutrient and micronutrient recommendations—are critical for patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and recovery. In this session, we will explore evidence-based principles in oncologic nutrition, practical strategies for dietary management, and the role of nutrition support in a comprehensive multidisciplinary model of cancer care. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of nutrition for improving both patient quality of life and overall treatment outcomes.
